This unit develops older students' knowledge of the discursive, imaginative, and persuasive modes. Each section contains:
an explanation of the features of the mode,
examples of techniques characteristic of that mode
a final task where students write in the mode at length
Example discursive, imaginative, and persuasive, and mixed-mode texts provided, with numbered paragraphs and wide margins for ease of mark-up. Classes can work through these texts to identify where techniques of the mode have been used and the writer has established a unique and fluent writing voice.
This unit will engage senior students who want to develop a flexible and individual writing voice. Particularly useful for New South Wales HSC students doing Module C.
